Announcing Season Two of SLP Happy Hour!
We are beyond excited to share that Season 2 of SLP Happy Hour starts January 10th.
Having a podcast break turned out to be the best thing we could have done for ourselves, as it gave time to plan an awesome second season that we are both excited about.
What can you expect in Season 2?
Habit change
How Tos
Let me explain….
Habit Change
In order to reduce stress and enjoy our SLP lives even more, we know that creating consistent habits and routines can increase our happiness. They allow us time to stop, breathe, and have some consistent ways for us to signal our brain that it is time to rest. This is extremely challenging to do - especially after a hectic, busy day at work.
That said, habits are hard.
Anyone who has ever tried to meal prep, lose ten pounds, or create a consistent exercise routine knows that changing habits is hard work. It feels like you take one step forward and two steps back.
We are right there with you. That’s why we are starting now (actually we started in November, during the break) to practice some habits we want to develop in 2019 - to tell you what (realistically) works (and what doesn’t) for busy SLPs.
Imagine this….
You have a consistent, quick and easy but also de-stressing morning routine that allows you to feel proactive and positive about your day (not guilty or under pressure)
You have a simple and effective evening routine to wind down from work, leave work behind, and be present for your family
You have a consistent weekend routine for leaving work at work, having fun, resting, but also taking a little time to prepare for the week so you feel positive (and not overwhelmed) by the work week ahead
Wouldn’t that be great?
We sure think so, and because of this our episodes this season (especially in January and February) will focus on developing healthier habits and routines so we can all integrate our work and home life more effectively and find more joy and less stress as SLPs (and SLP students).
How Tos
There is a lot of information on the internet about how we could be better SLPs. Research articles to read. Classes to take. People to talk to.
While this is great, there often isn’t time to wade through all this information and take action. Feeling the pressure to “catch up” on all these things on top of an already busy SLP schedule can lead to overwhelm.
So what if we took that on for you?
What if we talked to experts about some most-asked-about disorder areas and answered one simple question….
HOW DO YOU START?
This season on the podcast, we will offer monthly interview shows that are how-tos.
Not in an overwhelming, throw-spaghetti-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks way.
These will be mini-trainings full of actionable advice with exactly how to start. We’ll interview guest experts in their field on the show, and share with you what to do to get started now.
This winter, we’ll be answering some of our most commonly asked questions:
How do you start with toddlers/preschool clients? How do you get engagement? What do sessions look like?
How do you start with nonverbal learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder? Can you walk us through a session?
How do you start planning and taking data for mixed groups (with a variety of disorder areas)? Is there a way to make this feel simpler and easier and not so hard?
Will you offer free CEUs?
Since this is a commonly asked question, no. That process is super expensive and time consuming, and we are just an itty bitty podcast with big dreams, big hearts, and zero budget and free time. Maybe someday!
What will you get?
A clear and concise answer about where to start for these learners and what your sessions might look like. Specific lesson plan ideas, and ways to switch it up if it all goes sideways. Specific advice you can implement right away with your learners. Low prep and no-prep options so that you don’t have to spend your personal money on all those extra toys and materials.
We don’t get caught in the weeds. We give you actionable, effective to-dos from the get go so that you feel confident working with a variety of learners.
