Listener Question
A listener asks if we have resolutions for the new year. The short answer is no, and longer answers are in the episode. Sarah talks about the book The One Thing
What’s happening in our speech rooms?
Sarie talks about having a grad student, how great it’s been, and how much more she’s been thinking about SLP isolation.
Sarah talks about getting help at her clinic, and how it’s been difficult to get clients off her schedule and onto a new hire’s schedule, but how having a new hire has helped take things off her plate and reduce stress overall.
Are You Too Nice?
“Being nice does not come out of goodness or high morals. It comes out of a fear of displeasing others and receiving their disapproval”
Book - Not Nice by Dr Aziz Gazipura
The cohosts talk about this quote, whether or not they believe it’s true, and how it impacts their own perspectives about asking for what they need.
Self Care Challenge
Challenge One: Consider Your Motivations for Being “Nice”
Am I saying something to be nice? Or can I communicate my own need? Can I detach my own feelings of worth from the person’s response as I ask for what I need? Can I detach from the feeling of over responsibility for other people’s needs?
Challenge Two: What are your happiness habits? Should you mix it up?
Sarah talks about a mix up she’s done with her morning routine (not working out in the mornings) and how that’s been helpful.
Our Favorite Books from This Past Year
