As speech language pathologists, how important Phonological Awareness (PA) skills are. We also know (from experience) that kids who understand how sounds work will progress faster with our speech sound activities.

Research on Phonological Awareness (PA) and Rhyme

• Phonological awareness activities support students with speech sound, language, and literacy challenges

• Short and intensive PA instruction can result in big gains (Carson et al 2013)

• Students with SSDs are more likely to have poor PA skills (Roepke & Brosseau-Lapre 2023)
