Listener Question
I’m new to the school setting and I am enjoying it, but between phone calls, emails, evaluations, and scheduling meetings, I feel like there’s no way to do it all, and I feel bad about it. I’m also the only SLP in a small district, so I don’t even know if this feeling is normal or not. Do you feel this way? What do you do when you feel this way?
Advice from Sarah and Sarie Includes:
Ask for help, and keep up the communication
Remember the process
Acknowledge that you can’t do it all and it’s normal to feel this way
Sometimes by NOT doing something, the problem solves it’s self (or at least doesn’t get worse)
Research emotional labor and decision fatigue and understand how that can impact your emotions
You can’t do it all, and acknowledge this
Set email and phone call times to check/answer (Episode 6 All About Email is a great one for more on this)
Use time saving tools and templates
Consider organizing an SLP dinner out to just chat
