In this solo episode, Sarah shares 5 benefits of setting boundaries, which includes:
Relaxation in the long term. Staying in frustration and resentment feels like a contraction. It is an energy drain, and may even manifest in tight muscles or feeling headaches, stomach aches or other body pain. Releasing this by sharing a boundary can take us from a contracted state to an expanded state.
Setting a boundary gives us practice stating what we need and identifying what we need
People who aren’t respecting boundaries can be our teachers - what can I learn from this? How can I state my needs and expectations earlier (i.e. before the resentment)?
Creating boundaries often creates stress in the short term but leads to a release and reduction of stress in the long term
Discussing what isn’t working for us allows the other person to see our perspective and (when appropriate) share what’s been going on with them and how to move forward together
